That's it and that's all.

Heading into today's game, the Bourne Braves were 24 games out of second place, with 12 games remaining. In the Cape League, you get two points for each win. If the Braves won every one of their remaining games, and the team in second lost their remaining 9, and the other teams in between lost just enough to not move into second, the Braves would tie for second and force a one game playoff.

Unlikely? Oh hell yeah.

Possible? Oh hell yeah.

Take it one day at a time. The streak would have to start against Hyannis. Last year, Hyannis set a Cape League record for the fewest wins in a season. this year it could be the Braves.

The game wound up being a showcase of everything that has gone wrong for the Braves this season: Poor defense. 5 errors. Another ball misplayed in center went in the books as a triple. 2 of them went to Matt Hall, giving him 10 on the season. One of them was a groundball, right through his legs. It wasn't the first time this season. Shakey starting pitching: Bobby Bell was scoreless through 2, but he gave up a three run bomb in the third (one run was unearned), and 3 more in the fourth. Horrible relief pitching; Joe Perinar got lit up. 7 runs over two innings. Granted, the defense was awful behind him, but jesus. Our left fielder (NOT a pitcher) threw the last two innings, and he only gave up one run, and it was because the centerfielder misplayed a ball and the leadoff man wound up on third. Just terrible. They put up 14. That's TWO touchdowns.

Oh yeah, the Braves have had some offensive troubles too. Those also continued today. The Braves recorded no hits in the game. They got no hit. Charlie Furbush tossed a no-no. It was the second this year in the League, the second in my time in the Cape League.

Sigh.

So not only did the Braves get piss-hammered, they got no hit. Not only did they get no-hit, they were mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs, with more than 1/4 of their games left to play.

I had to do the game alone, which SUCKS. It was a three hour game, most of our games are about two hours.

For the first time this season, I didn't see the Braves as a .500 team that couldn't catcha break. I saw a bunch of losers pack it in and accept an ass-kicking. It was the worst baseball game I have ever seen.

At least I got to call a piece of history.

Braves, thanks for the memories, in 3 years you finish last once, lost the championship once, and are headed for another last place finish.

Something I just can't understand

There's drama a'brewing with the Braves.

The interns stir in unrest.

It's very odd. One man hired us all. Now he's a running joke.

The other interns are pretty ruthless. His last name has become an adjective, and the funniest joke imaginable. Everyone complains about him.

Granted, he's disorganized and has a bad habit of messing with systems that are known to work, and his logic is often bizaare and completely unpredictable.

But this is the guy who hired us. He's the guy who made us all a part of the Braves organization.

Shit, he tried to replace me. And I do a pretty good job running the interns. I don't begrudge him. Even if he had replaced me, I would have gotten over it.

This is the guy who has given us all what we've wanted: A chance to be a part of a baseball team.

We all have our own agendas for the Braves. I wanted to broadcast baseball games. This is the guy who allowed it to happen.

I mean, if any of us had had better offers, none of us would be here. Only the Braves presented an opportunity.

Recently, one of my interns photoshopped this board member into some photos. And they were hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. But he also put a Bourne Braves logo on every one.

That really upset me. The photos were not the issue. Putting the logo on them, the actual Braves logo, made it look as though the organization condoned the pictures. And that just isn't true. I took it as an insult to every member of the organization who works their tail off to make this team work. A lot of great people have put in a world of time and effort, and to me having a logo on the pictures undermined everything they had worked so hard for.

Last year, the Braves won the Commisioner's Cup, an award given to the best overall organization, on and off the field.

I took a great deal of pride in it, because I felt like the interns that I had coordinated had played a key role in it.

Maybe it would have been different if all the board members had been depicted in the pictures. I mean, there was one where I was photoshopped into broadcasting a sheepdog show. They were absurdly funny, but the logo just drove me nuts.

If it had been a home made logo, or just something that said Bourne Braves, it would probably be different. But if you put a Red Sox logo on a picture of Theo in some absolutely ridiculous scenario, I'm willing to bet the organization would take offense.

I talked to the intern about it, and I came off as preachy, I know. As you can probably tell, I have a hard time formulating the reason why the logo should not have been on the pictures. It was just that my PR training went nuts when I saw it. The intern became defensive and said that I shouldn't have had pictures of him and another intern that had one's drivers license and the others social security card viewable in my pictures on facebook. I was extremely frusterated.

How was his disrespect of the organization I love related to the pictures I had online? I have no clue.

But I took the pictures down first thing tonight.
